Hi, my name is Rachel Alva, and I’m delighted to be Blakely’s highly capable teacher as well as Mrs. Ledbetter’s Friday teaching partner. I am deeply passionate about fostering learning experiences that help students build autonomy and interdependence.

I started my teaching journey in 2012 with Seattle Public Schools, where I spent several years working with 2nd and 3rd graders in a highly capable school. My path then led me to the San Juan Islands before I made my home on Bainbridge Island.

Blakely’s warm, student-centered environment captured my heart, and I’m thrilled to be part of this community both as a teacher and as a parent of two students. Outside the classroom, you’ll find me savoring the great outdoors, enjoying game nights, and snuggling up with my bernedoodle.
