From the Counselor

In the Counseling Classroom this month, we’re shifting gears and diving into new learning across all grade levels! Here’s a peek at what students are exploring:

Kindergarten: We’re learning how to tell the size of a problem! Small “windy and rainy” problems can often be solved on our own, while big “stormy and tornado” problems need adult help.

1st Grade: We’re identifying feelings with Feel Your Best Self! Students are learning about the various emotions we experience as humans (heavy to light) and strategies to help regulate them. This month’s focus: belly breathing for relaxation—next up, Shake Out the Yuck, Ground It Down, and Chillax in My Head!

2nd Grade: Friendship skills are front and center! Using Kelso’s Choices and Character Strong’s Tree of Choices, we’re practicing how to solve conflicts respectfully and independently.

3rd Grade: We’re exploring what happens when we “flip our lid.” Students are discovering how the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex work together— and are learning regulation strategies to get their thinking brains back online.

4th Grade: Through GoZen’s Full Moon Falls, students are following a pack of wolf friends as they navigate friendship ups and downs. We’re learning about empathy, teamwork, and how to handle tricky feelings and conflicts.

💛 Schoolwide Focus: As a reminder, this month’s character trait is Gratitude! We are noticing and appreciating the good things in our lives, big and small, and sharing these gratitudes with others. I am grateful to be part of a school community that truly values the whole child— where student wellbeing and connectedness are at the heart of everything we do.

With Gratitude,
Amanda Keller (she/her), M.Ed.

Emergency Alert System Test — Thursday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m.

BISD will conduct a test of our emergency alert system on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m.

This routine test helps ensure that we can quickly reach staff and families by phone, text, and email in the event of a real emergency or weather-related closure.

If you receive a message that day labeled “TEST MESSAGE”, no action is needed. It simply confirms that your contact information in ParentSquare is up to date and our system is functioning properly.

If you do not receive the test message, please check your ParentSquare settings or contact your school’s office to confirm your contact information.

Thank you for helping us make sure we can communicate quickly and effectively in any situation.

BIMA Art Exhibition

Blakely 3rd Grade has a part of the exhibition at BIMA for Dia de Los Muertos from November 1st-16th. Our 3rd grade students created ceramic Calavera vases that were dedicated to a loved one who has passed. In the vases are handwritten notes and paper marigolds created with love for that special person (or animal) they love. Go check it out.
