From the Principal

Hello Bulldogs!

This November, Blakely is focusing on gratitude, and I couldn't be more grateful to be part of such an incredible community. Every day, I witness beautiful acts of kindness and appreciation that truly embody the gratitude we aim to instill in our Bulldog students.

I've been heartwarmed to see students volunteering to help in the lunchroom, clearing tables and supporting our cafeteria staff. Teachers and staff continue to show gratitude for one another—whether it's bringing a colleague their favorite coffee or stepping in at a moment's notice to support or be a thought partner. These small gestures create the caring environment that makes our school so special.

Lastly, I want to share a special thank you to our families for helping us protect our beautiful campus grounds! Your reminders to students about staying on walkways are making a difference in preserving our landscaping.

Before I sign off, I want to highlight two specific pieces of information important to Blakely this week:

Blakely Food Drive: November 17-25

We are hosting a Food Drive this week! From November 17th through November 25th, we're collecting donations for Helpline House to support families in our community during the holiday season.

We're accepting donations daily during school hours at arrival and dismissal (and of course students can bring in items). Non-perishable items such as canned goods, pancake mix/syrup, rice, and other shelf-stable foods are greatly appreciated. Additionally, dental supplies are an area of need identified by Helpline. Drop-off bins are located in the main office and will be outside at arrival and dismissal. Thank you for donating if you can!

Attendance Matters
We've been tracking our attendance patterns and wanted to share some important trends with you:

  • Our monthly attendance data shows that we are averaging nearly 96% of our students at school daily in November (up from 94% in October)- well done!
  • Mondays consistently have our lowest attendance percentage (94%) across all grade levels with Fridays close behind (94.5%). Our students are engaged in learning, connection and growth every minute of the day at Blakely- we appreciate your help in planning for consistent attendance at the start and end of the week.
  • So far, we have had one day above 96% attendance in November. We are keeping track of everyday above 96%, once we get 10 days above 96% we will have an all school celebration. Let's get there fast!
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success and helps maintain the strong classroom communities we've built together. Every day matters! If your child must be absent, please remember to notify the office or email blaattend@bisd303.org.

Thank you for being such wonderful partners in your children's education. Your support and partnership makes all the difference. Have an incredible week, see you soon!

Helpline House Food Drive

In celebration of November’s word of the month, gratitude, Blakely Elementary is hosting a school-wide food drive to support Helpline House, a local nonprofit providing food and essential resources for Bainbridge Island families in need. Our goal is to collect 1,000 pounds of food between November 17–25. Students and families are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, including granola bars, individually wrapped snacks, shelf-stable juices, canned fish and meats, cooking oil, pancake mix and syrup, canned soups or stews, and dental hygiene products.

Donations can be dropped off in the morning pick-up circle from 7:30–7:50 a.m. each school day, or during Friday afternoon pick-up on November 21 from 2:00–2:30 p.m. Volunteers will be present to collect and weigh donations, and families can track the school’s progress on our “Goal Thermometer” displayed in the lobby. Students may also bring donations in their backpacks to drop off inside the school each morning. Together, we can show gratitude in action by helping our neighbors through this meaningful community effort!
