From the Principal

Hi Bulldogs,

We are in the final week of May and my goodness how time is flying by. The last few weeks of the year can be a blur, filled with different events, culminations and celebrations as we recognize all the hard work our students and staff put in this year. I have a few quick pieces to share with you this week, thank you for reading.

PTO Math Night:
This is happening tomorrow night, from 6-7:30! Please join us for an evening of fun filled math grames! The intent is for parents and students to engage in the games together. Students attending must be accompanied by family members- we will not have staff supervision present. If you are interested in volunteering, please let the PTO know asap!

Technology in Classrooms:
I'd like to share with you that I am aware of conversations happening across BISD (and our greater community) regarding technology use in our schools. The questions being posed are valuable and necessary. Staying curious and seeking information helps us come together, to share our different perspectives and advocate for our children.

We all benefit from technology in meaningful ways, both as adults and young learners. At the same time, emerging research about brain development and how technology affects growing minds deserves our careful attention and consideration. As parents, community members, educators and students, we have a collective responsibility to consider the variables and ensure we are using technology in developmentally appropriate ways.

I believe there is a place for technology in our classrooms, but this isn't a simple issue with easy answers. If you are curious like me, I urge you to embrace that curiosity and engage in dialogue with your child's teacher or with me so we can all continue to support our students and the Bainbridge Island community.

Thank you, Blakely!

PTO Happenings

Blakely Family Math Night!
Blakely Family Math Night will be held Wednesday May 27 from 6-7:30 in the Blakely Commons. Help us make it extra fun - no experience (or PhDs) needed! We're looking for helpers to set up and break down, hand out treats, and facilitate games. Bring the entire family! (Children must attend with an adult)

Kickball Picnic!
Our first ever Blakely Family Kickball & Picnic Event will be held on Friday June 5 at 5:30pm on the playground/field. We're looking for volunteers to help set up and break down, hand out pizza and treats, and for the game: referees, an emcee, base monitors, pitching coordinators, and coaches! Come be part of the fun!

Next PTO Meeting - Friday June 5
Our last PTO meeting of the year will be held on Friday June 5 at 9am in the Blakely Conference Room. All are welcome to attend - we have open positions for next school year, if you're interested in getting involved with PTO, joining a meeting is a great way to start!

We'll be providing some light snacks but no lunch. Parents are welcome! We have the capacity for around 30 students so we're looking for participation.

Join the BISD Instructional Technology Advisory Council

BISD is forming a Instructional Technology Advisory Council to help guide thoughtful conversations and recommendations around the intentional use of technology in our classrooms and schools.

This committee will bring together staff, families, and community members to explore how technology can best support teaching, learning, student well-being, and balanced classroom experiences.

If you are interested in helping shape future conversations and decisions around educational technology in BISD, we encourage you to apply and be part of this important work.

Applications are due on Friday, June 5th.

📝 Action Required: Annual Back-to-School Check-In (ABC)

We are at 28% registration for the 2026-27 school year! If you haven't registered yet, please take a moment to complete your child's registration. Having an accurate headcount is essential for us to determine staffing, class sizes, and building capacity.

  • Attending Next Year? Log in to your Family Access account, select ABC 26-27 in the left menu, and complete the process ASAP. It takes less than 15 minutes! (Note: This is required for ALL students, including those in Running Start. For students with more than one household, only the Primary Family can complete this step).
  • Not Returning? Please contact your school office or email studentrecords@bisd303.org with your educational plans so we can update our records.

IMPORTANT: Update on Next Year’s Release Day Schedule

BIEA (Bainbridge Island Education Association) and BISD Bargaining Teams met last evening and reached a tentative agreement to adjust the day of the week for release days in the upcoming school year.

Taking to heart the perspectives shared by our staff, students, and families, we have moved all full and half-day releases to Mondays instead of the previous mix of Mondays and Wednesdays. We heard clearly that having a consistent day of the week makes it much easier for families to manage childcare, work schedules, and family time, and we are glad to make this shift to support that.

Please save the following finalized release dates for the 2026–27 school year:

Full-Day Release Dates (No School for Students)
September 28
October 26
January 25
March 22
May 17

Half-Day Release Dates
November 30
April 26
June 7

Please note that we will be continuing with the half-day conference schedule for the upcoming year.

We appreciate the patience and partnership of our staff, students, and families as we worked through this process to best support our school community.
