From the Principal

Hello Bulldogs!

We're nearly to the starting line! It was lovely seeing so many faces at Meet and Greet Friday, the energy was electric and has me so excited for tomorrow. This marks the third Monday in a row you've heard from me, so I'm going to keep my remarks short and sweet today. As a quick reminder, the start of the year is always filled with a huge range of emotions- excitement, uncertainty, sadness, curiosity, nervousness, and more. At Blakely, we do hard things and we help each other. Please know that whatever range of emotions your child is feeling, they are not alone and we are here for them. The first few days go fast and our staff are incredible at ensuring all students feel supported, cared for and that they belong. We can't wait to get going!

Thanks for reading the important updates below. See you tomorrow!

PTO Meeting: We will have a PTO meeting at Blakely this Friday (9/4) at 9:30am. The meeting will be our monthly general membership meeting and will also start the process of electing officers for vital roles. We will not hold elections this meeting but we will discuss the roles, responsibilities and open it up for nominations. This meeting is open to ALL parents of Blakely students. If you are unable to attend but are interested in holding a leadership role (president, treasurer, and communications are the most vital) please let me know. Additionally, we are hoping to get someone to step into the fundraising chair role, specifically to help with our Jog-A-Thon in early October. We hope to see you at the meeting!
*One other note- we will have a meeting the following Friday (9/11) to hold elections. This will also be at 9:30am.

Interested in Extra Cash? Job Opening!: We currently do not have a lunchroom supervisor for this year. If you are interested in being at Blakely supervising the lunchroom from 11:15-12:45 daily, please let me know asap! This is a fabulous way to help out, meet our students and staff, and earn a bit of money while doing it. The lunchroom is one of my favorite spaces- getting to see the connections between students and engage in conversations with them is heartwarming. Of course, we will have lunchroom supervision daily even though the position is currently unfilled. We will either have a sub or a rotation of staff to cover the role.
Pickup/Dropoff notes: A quick refresher for Pickup and Dropoff.

Dropoff:
  • Our supervision starts at 7:35am, if your child is on campus before 7:35, they must be with an adult.
  • When exiting a vehicle in the dropoff loop, please make sure your child exits curbside. Do not leave your car in the loop and walk your child to the front of the school. If you wish to walk them up, please find a parking spot. This helps traffic move quickly.
  • All students will come to the front doors and wait until 7:40 when we open for the day.
  • If students are eating breakfast, they can go in at 7:35 through the cafeteria doors.
  • The tardy bell is 7:50am.
Pickup
  • Our supervision ends at 2:30. Any students on campus after 2:30 must be with an adult.
  • When entering a vehicle at the pickup loop, please make sure your child enters curbside rather than walking around the car to get in. Do not leave your car in the loop and walk to meet your child at the front of the school. If you wish to walk and meet them up front, please find a parking spot. This helps traffic move quickly.
  • Classes dismiss between 2:20-2:25ish. Not all students will be outside at 2:20.
Substitutes Needed!: Blakely and BISD are always in need of substitutes at all levels! If you are interested in trying this out, feel free to apply! Reach out to Kyanne in the office or you can always chat with me about the process.

Lunchroom Volunteers Needed: Can you help in the lunchroom the first few weeks of school? Come in any day between 11:15am and 12:45pm. Thank you for considering.
